from our white brother; now we look with faith to
obtain these good things."
Bro. J. F. Boulden, corresponding secretary, submit¬
ted his report, as follows :
To the Genexal Missionary Baptist Association of Missis¬
sippi:
Dear Brethren:—One year ago it was your pleasure to
make me your corresponding secretary, in which capacity
I have served the association to the best of my ability.
My correspondence in behalf of the association has been
very large, and nearly all at my own expense. I have sent
letters to all the associations and leading brethren witnin
my knowledge, whom I have thought friendly to our en¬
terprise, within and without the State. I have also per¬
sonally used my influence with those whom I have met,
from time to time ; and as your corresponding secretaty,
in my traveling during the past year, I have made it my
business to look after the welfare of our cause within those
districts represented in this body; and while I have found
a great need of education among our people, I am glad to
say that they have a thirst for it. In some few instances
I have found those who ignore education, and" even to
ignore the Bible, but this class is greatly in the minority.
In many places the Baptist cause is growing rapidly, she is
" lengthening her cords and strengthening her stakes."
Many are leaving the Pedo-Baptist churches and coming
to us, and many, deeply impressed with their sens« of duty
in that direction, are forcing their unbaptized ministers
to perform the ordinance for them, thus making them half
Baptist. So with what we are doing ourselves, and com¬
pelling others to do, by a steadfast adherance to our prin¬
ciples, the world is fast becoming Baptist, And now
while I am glad to say that many of our brethren are im¬
proving, and in their weakness are doing much to build
up our cause, yet the great need of education is staring
us in the face more and more every day, and we must do
something in that direction. Others are making educa¬
tion their base, of operation, and we have it to contend
with; and while we have the wind and tide in our
favor, we cannot do much without education. I hope this
