ENRY Herberl Johnson, born near Elko, llou-lmi County, Georgia,
November 11th, ISG1, son of Needham Thqnios (b. 1833 d. L893)
and Sarah Holmes Johnson b. 1835, d. L904), grandson of Richard
and Louise Mathews Johnson, and Isaac and Anne Holmes, all of
I lousiiin County, (Irorgia.
A representative of one of the best Southern families, bom when In- parents
were struggling with the adverse conditions incident to the Civil War. il was
with difficulty that he obtained hi- meager education in the schools of the
county and of Hawkinsville.
Obtained the degree of D. D. S. at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery.
March 1888, practiced in Hawkinsville, (Irorgia. 1887-1888, in London, Eng¬
land, 1889 and 1890, Atlanta, (Irorgia. part of 1890.....1 1891, Macon, (Irorgia.
1891 to the presenl time; inventor of the Johnson's Lever Rubber Dam Clamp.
Johnson's Improved Cervical Rubber Dam Clamp. Johnson's Contour Pliers,
and the Johnson-Ries Electric Dental Engine.
Editor of the Southern Dental Journal from 1890 to 1897, associate
editor of the American Dental Weekly, 1898, editor and founder of the Den¬
tal World, the (Irorgia State Dental Society Journal, 1899 and 1901.
Member Georgia State Dental Society from 1887 to presenl time, member
Southern Dental Association, from 1890 to consolidation with the American
Dental Association, member National Dental Association from time of organi¬
zation to present time, and also Southern branch of the National, honorary
member North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and Alabama State Den¬
tal Societies, the I'-i Omega Dental Fraternity and the Atlanta Society of Den¬
tists, member of the Medical Staff of the Macon (I.....'gia Hospital Association.
Director in the Commercial and Savings Bank in Macon, 1898 to the present
time, member of the Masonic Fraternities, a Knight Templar and a Shriner,
a Past Master, Past High Priest and Past Eminent C.....mander, member of the
Baptist church since 1887, first Vice-President Odontological Society of At¬
lanta, 1890, President Georgia State Dental Society, 1901 and 1902, President
National Dental Association, Southern Branch, 1901 and 1902, member of
Board of Examiners of (Irorgia, 1893 to 1898, and represented thai body in
the National Association of Dental Examiners al old Poinl Comfort in 1898,
Professor of Prosthetic Dentistry and Metallurgy Southern Dental College of
