" The elder, unto the well-beloved Gaius whom I lovc
IN THE TRUTH. BELOVED, I WISH ABOVE ALL THINGS
THAT THOU MAYEST PROSPER AND BE IN HEALTH, EVEN AS

This epistle is addressed to some con¬
verted Gentile called Gaius. But as
there are three persons of this name
mentioned in the New Testament, there
is an uncertainty with regard to the one
particularly referred to. There is one
Gaius of Corinth, whom St. Paul calls
his " host, and" the host of " the whole
Church."1 There is another named
