I Giver and guardian of my sleep.
To praise thy name I wake :
Still, Lord, thy helple-s servant keep,
For thine own mercy's sake.
2 The blessing of another day
I thankfully receive :
O may I only thee obey,
And to thy glory live !
3 Upon me lay thy mighty hand,
My words and thoughts restrain :
Bow my whole soul to thy command,
Nor let my faith be vain.
4 Pris'ner of hope. I wait the hour
Which shall salvation bring ;
WTien all I am shall own thy power,
And call my Jesus King.
Sabbath Morning. Psalm v. 1-8.
I Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear
My voice ascending high ;
To thee will I direct my prayer,
To thee lift up mine eye:
2 Up the hills where Christ is gone,
To plead for all his saints.
Presenting at his Father's throne
Our songs and our complaints.
3 Thou art a God before whose sight
The wicked shall not stand ;
Sinners shall ne'er be thy delight,
Nor dwell at thy right hand.
4 But to thy house will I resort,
To taste thy mercies there ;
I will frequent thy holv court,
And worship in thv fear.
5 O may thy Spirit guide my feet
In ways of righteousness.
Make ev'ry path of duty straight'
And plain before my face.
Life, li'sfht and love.
I Enthroned on high, almighty Lord,
The Holy Ghost send down;
Fulfil in us thy faithful word,
And all thy mercies crown.
2 Though on our heads no tongues of fire
Their wondrous powers impart,
Grant, Saviour, what we more desire,—
Thy Spirit in our heart.
3 Spirit of life, and light, and love,
Thy heavenly influence give ;
Quicken our souls, our guilt remove,
That we in Christ may live.
4 To our benighted minds reveal
The glories of his grace,
And bring us where no clouds conceal
The brightness of his face.
5 His love within us shed abroad,
Life's ever-spreading well;
Till God in us, and we in God,
In love eternal dwell.
