THE SCIENCE OF SPIRITUAL LIGHT.
I am the light of the World.—John viii : 12.
Light is represented in the Scriptures as the imme¬
diate result of a divine command. In the first verse
of the Bible the act of creation is frankly declared.
" In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth,'' etc. Here we learn that the earth was with¬
out form and void; here watery chaos had a dura¬
tion with an unbroken gloom of darkness.
We have no history of there being further move¬
ments made by the Creator until he called forth
fight. When he said " Let there be light," at once
light broke over the face of chaos and the floating
vapors were penetrated by its splendor and brightness
to their surface. For over 2200 years the science of
light has been studied with intense interest by the
best minds of the known world; but by diligent
search and constant experience they have only been
enabled to say that light moves in a straight fine, i.e.
